Joining us to talk about the huge and pervasive issue of pornography is Ted Shimer. Ted is the founder of The Freedom Fight, an online pornography addiction recovery program. He is a long time mentor of young adults and is trained as a Pastoral Sex Addiction Professional-Supervisor. His background and training give him a unique and grounded approach to a holistic addiction recovery from porn.

• Sobering stats on pornography:
• • 2019 report: Pornhub has had more than 42 billion total visits, 115 million daily visits and 170 years of new content created 
  • 1 in 5 mobile searches are for pornography 
  • 88% of scenes in porn films contain acts of physical aggression 
  • The average age of first exposure to porn for a child is between 8-11 years old. Children under 10 now account for 22% of online porn consumption for those under 18 
  • 47% of all US families claim that pornography is an existing problem with someone in their home 
• The adolescent brain is more susceptible to addictions and addictions at this age are more likely to lead to longer term addictions
• 1 Peter 2:11 “…abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul.” 
• 1 Corinthians 6:18  “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.”
• Guilt and shame are not the same:
• • Guilt says “I’ve done something bad.”
  • Shame says “I am bad.”
• The first step to healing is confessing to a trusted friend, a mentor or a pastor what’s going on. If you don’t have one of those men, ask God to reveal one to you.
